The other day I was in a crowd of people, most of whom were standing while I was sitting. It put me in the perfect position to look at everyone’s shoes. Such beautiful sandals! Lovely shades of polish! Heels, flats, wedges, ties, strappy, simple and elaborate. It was a fun way to pass the time.
- If you’re going to wear sandals, make sure your feet are clean and your nails are in good shape.
- Polish is optional, but either wear it or don’t; if it’s chipping, take it off completely, none of this “I’m over-due for a pedicure.” We can see that and it doesn’t look good.
- Ladies, do the heels on your pumps need to be replaced? Clacking along on the raw bottom nails/plastic looks tacky and sounds worse. Gentlemen, do your heels have an uneven wear pattern? It may be time for a replacement.
- Scuffs? Scrapes? A little shoe polish goes a long way.
What you wear on your feet is part of your appearance, and head to toe, that matters.
Summertime doesn’t mean the need for professionalism completely disappears. Dress codes may relax, especially in the heat, but never forget you are always making an impression on someone. Be sure you are putting your best foot forward!
